Christina Harris Schwinn to Speak at Nov. 19 Seminar on “Independent Contractors vs. Employees”

Attorney Christina Harris Schwinn will present on “Independent Contractors vs. Employees” Nov. 19 at the CFO Breakfast Roundtable – Lee County, hosted by Southwest Florida Chapter of Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).  The free event will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at CliftonLarsonAllen, 6810 International Center Blvd. in Fort Myers.

The issue of employee misclassification has become a hot topic recently as the economy has changed, and growing businesses turn away from traditional hiring practices and rely on contract workers.  After Uber lost its case in July, the U.S. Department of Labor, the IRS and state workforce agencies have been cracking down on businesses.  Schwinn, whose primary practice areas are labor and employment law, will highlight the differences between employees and independent contractors in regards to misclassification of employees, and will discuss the effects of employee compliance on small and mid-sized businesses in the state of Florida.
