avese Law Firm partner Christina Harris Schwinn will participate in a panel discussion on emerging issues in employee misclassification on March 22 at Northeastern University School of Law in Boston. The symposium will examine employment relationships and explore the legal definitions of employee and independent contractors. One of four attorneys from around the U.S. tapped to participate in the panel, in the panel discussion titled, “Emerging Issues in Worker Misclassification Under Federal and State Regimes,” Schwinn will address the issue of the propriety of paying a half-time overtime premium instead of time and one-half retroactively in exempt misclassification cases under the Fair Labor Standards Act. This topic was the subject of Schwinn’s thesis for her Masters of Laws in Employment Law from Atlanta’s John Marshall School of Law.

Schwinn’s primary practice areas are employment law, business transactions, community association law and real estate law. Schwinn, who joined Pavese Law Firm in 2005, is an accomplished public speaker and regularly writes articles that have been published both locally and nationally in a variety of publications.
